The Irad Special Economic Zone
The Irad Special Economic Zone (ISEZ) was proclaimed in Nurzhan on 25 February 2007 to keep Irad whole after the secret drafts to partition the country among its neighbours were made public. Irad's sovereignty has been suspended since then, held in trust until all its people can decide its future together.
The ISEZ is governed by a Governor and a Lieutenant Governor elected together every four years under the Elective Governor Acts of 1992, the Territorial Legislature (Mejlis) of 60 members, and the Supreme Court. It comprises the cities of Talas, Nurzhan and Iyık Janyl and six districts. English and Iradi are the official languages.
